Smiling faces, smart uniforms, cheerful voices and laughter – this is what I have seen in the corridors and playgrounds this week and in classrooms - concentration, focus, engagement and lots of learning. It’s great to be back and to see everyone again.
As you are aware, we return to excellent GCSE results – with 74% of last year’s year 11 achieving 5 A*- C, and also very impressively – 85% of students making expected progress in English and 86% making expected progress in maths – these percentages are well above the national average. All that hard work, effort and determination certainly paid off.
All students have impressed me by the way that they have settled back down to work and the “Light Hall” way very quickly . We are particularly proud of our new year 7s – they have swiftly got to grips with our large site and are happy and enthusiastic about everything they do. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many of the year 7 parents at our information evening last night and am delighted to hear how much the year 7s are enjoying their first few days in secondary school.
Thank you to all parents for your support in ensuring that our students are here on time and looking so smart. Many of last year’s year 11 students have been to visit us this week before they start college and it has been a privilege to see them again, as the well-rounded young adults that they now are and to feel so proud of them and their achievements. One young lady, in particular, brought in a poem that she has written for the school and I would like to share this with you now. It signifies what we are about at Light Hall and we were all very touched to receive it.
I wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
