Celebrations, performances & lots of fun!

18th July 2014
It has been such a delightful week at Light Hall. There has been something to celebrate every day.  I have had the pleasure of congratulating so many students for their outstanding work, the pages of the Golden Book are filling fast. Nominations this week have included Izzy Fahy, Katy Meeson-Bisseker, Lucy Meeson-Bisseker, Eleanor Paddock and Amir Ali for excellent work in English, Alastair Chalmers, Jack Wilson, Gurmail Singh, Harry Lowe, Faiz Muhyyuden, Rowan Kells, Paige Mahoney, Abbie O’Brien, Natasha O’brien, Jacob Brown, Luke Turner and Amy Lynch – all for excellent reading, Alex Burton for excellent creative writing, Kirsti Bedi, Louise Rippon and Becky Fowler for wonderful work in modern languages, Jamie McLachlan for outstanding effort and achievement in science. Megan Clark for excellent work in RE and finally Cara LeGrys and Ben Lys for being so supportive to the year 5 students when they visited Light Hall for their taster days.
On Wednesday morning the Gandhi Building dining room was full of our brilliant mathematicians, receiving their certificates for their performance in the UK Maths Challenge. The sheer number of students there was very impressive. I have also had the privilege of having lunch with all our year 9 peer mentors and students who have performed well throughout the year. The dedication and consideration these students have shown for others is heartwarming.

All students who went to Drayton Manor on Thursday had lots of fun and staff  have complimented them on their excellent conduct.
Our rock bands performed at the O2 in Birmingham on Monday evening. Another highlight of the week has to be the performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, Churchill Hall was transformed into a theatre in the round and the audience was transported to another  time and place by our talented actors and actresses. It proved to be a very enjoyable and entertaining evening and the performers should be proud of their outstanding achievement.

And so the academic year draws to a close, it has been busy, exciting and fulfilling. My thanks to students and staff for their hard work and commitment. It is time for everyone to enjoy the sunshine and recharge their batteries.  My very best wishes for a relaxing summer break.
