A warm welcome from Light Hall

27th June 2014

It has been a pleasure to welcome so many different visitors to Light Hall this week.

On Monday evening we were delighted to meet all our new year 7 students and their parents when they came for their information session. Our peer mentors in year 9 did an excellent job of making sure everyone knew where they were going and answering any queries. We are very much looking forward to seeing year 6 again next week for their induction day and to welcoming them as Light Hall students in September.

Year 5 from classes from Dickens Heath, Haslucks Green and  Shirley Heath have visited us on different days and had a wonderful time sampling science, MFL, English and PE lessons.

Today Light Hall is hosting the annual Skirting Science Conference and we have over 150 girls from schools across the West Midlands, as well as our own, taking part in a variety of science and engineering workshops. The activities I have seen have been very practical and engaging – ranging from using chemical engineering to design an ice cream factory  to extracting DNA.  I know that all the girls have gained much from it.  Our thanks to the Soroptimists and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council for organising this event.

My thanks to everyone involved in these activities and especially our students who have welcomed our visitors so warmly and conducted themselves in an exemplary manner.

ery well done to our year 10 GCSE dancers as well. They  have  been praised for the excellent way in which they supported the year 1 students at St Alphege school with their arts festival.

My best wishes for a restful weekend.
